As one of the seven largest countries in the
world, the UK is located in the northwestern
continent of Europe. It is composed of England,
Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. English
is the main language in use. The four seasons
are distinctive, with temperature varies from
- 5C ° to 32C °.

Compulsory education is provided for students
aged 5 to 16. Students are not allowed to drop
out before the age of 16, and can apply for the
GCSE General Secondary Education Test before
leaving school. Most bachelor degree programs
last for three years.

Education Background

Oxford and Cambridge ranked first and
second respectively in the 2018 World
University Rankings done by "Time Higher
Education". Qualifications acquired in the
UK are widely recognized worldwide.

The excellent education system, coupled
with the origin of English, tens of thousands
of international students choose the UK to
further their education. Students are required
to attend two public examinations, namely
the GCSE and GCE A-Level before university.
Students may apply to different universities
depending on the results in the public
examinations.

There are about 2,600 Independent Schools
in the UK. Students from Hong Kong, under
the age of 16, without a British passport or
British nationality, can only be admitted to
private boarding schools. Academic year

University

There are over 100 universities in England,
Northern Ireland and Wales offering three-
year degree programs, while Scotland offers
four-year programs. Academic year begins in
September each year, with some universities
offering January intake. Some universities
also offer Pathway programs, i.e. preparatory
course for a bachelor's degree.

The course usually lasts for a year with the
same study mode as the university. As long as
students can successfully pass the required
university exam results after completing the
course, they can join the designated university
in the first year.

Univeristy Diploma /
International Year of the University

University Diploma qualifications are similar
to the first year of college, with the same
learning model as universities. Eligible students
upon successful completion of a one-year
program, may progress to Year 2 of the
University degree program. This is suitable for
students with slightly lower college entrance
examination results who wish to complete a
university degree in the shortest time possible.
